Beng There Done That

As much as i hate to admit it, there is a ah beng inside everyone of us. For those who knows me, its quite transparent that i hate ah beng [equivilant to gangsters in western] to the very core of their existence. Their very existence fouls the air that supports all living things and dims the sunlight that shines on the earth. They have no respect for anything and thinks that they own the world. However, as replusive as they are, there's a little ah beng [or ah lian, the female equivilant] in every singaporean. As i have read in a National Day edition 8 Days, ah bengs and ah lians is a part of Singapore just like mafia is a part of New York and French fries a part of France.

I kind of realize that being a singaporean, i'm hate myself, well at least the ah beng side. Reat assured my friends, that side doesn't come out too often, at least not 100%. I could only recall few occassions when i truely turn into that deep dark form. Most of the time it involves being hungry and friends being bullied. When i get hungry, you better be nice to me or find food for me fast. I can get quite rudeand unreasonable, perfect traits of a ah beng. Same goes when it involves my friends, especially the ones i really care about. Sometimes i don't even care if its my friend's that's in the wrong. You mess with the wrong guy when it comes to friends.

Other times, this Ah beng-ism just play a subtle role which is usually further accented in presence of other beng-ish people. Take note that these people are beng-ish in the sense that they have the subtle air of a ah beng, not pure asshole ah bengs. Some of the common traits of subtle ah beng-ism are vulgarities, mahjung playing [excessive], making lame jokes and shouting among others. These are the traits i dont mind having despite hating those scumbags. And the people that usually bring out the ah beng in me are people in office, wan li and sinyew among some others.

Therefore, the conclusion is that although i totally despise those low living good-for-nothing scumbags of the earth who holds no respect for anything, we all have a little ah beng inside. I have come to love it and uses it as a reminder not to turn into the very thing i hate. Besides, what meaning is there in living if you take out the subtle joy of vulgarism and mahjung.
